Fox Hunting with History and Heart

Aiken Hounds was recognized by the MFHA in 1916, just two years after our hunt was established. We’re proud to hold a unique space in American history, representing Aiken Hounds as the nation’s oldest drag hunt. Our meets provide a consistent and organized experience rooted in the kinship and etiquette that have defined fox hunting for generations.

What to Expect When You Hunt with Us

Hunting with Aiken Hounds will have you following the pack through some of Aiken’s most stunning landscapes. Our meets take place primarily in Hitchcock Woods and surrounding fixtures, offering mounted riders both varied terrain and a well-managed day in the field.

Aiken Hounds practices drag hunting. This is a type of fox hunting that follows a laid scent rather than live quarry. This makes for a more structured sport without sacrificing the riding challenges or unique atmosphere that make fox hunting so compelling.

Whether You Ride or Simply Support the Tradition, We Welcome You

Fox hunting has been part of Aiken’s identity for decades, and Aiken Hounds is proud to continue championing the sport’s rich heritage. We welcome members and guests of all experience levels who want to ride in an authentic setting with an emphasis on horsemanship and respect for land.

Members can stay connected to the hunt by participating in meets, seasonal trail rides, and hound walking events throughout the year. Guests are welcome to cap with Master’s permission (up to three times per season) on a per-meet basis, no long-term commitment necessary.

Riders interested in hunting regularly may apply for a hunt club membership.

Get Involved with Aiken Hounds

You don’t have to ride to be a part of Aiken’s storied fox hunting tradition. Our drag hunt relies on the ongoing support of members, guests, landowners, volunteers, and the local community. No matter where your interests lie, your involvement and contributions matter.

Hunt meets, trail rides, and seasonal events are scheduled throughout the year.
